In a live-streamed town hall Q&A on Tuesday, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the development of a long-awaited tool: the "Dislike" button.
Since the "Like" button debuted in 2009, Facebook users have been clamoring for its counterpart. Tuesday, Zuckerberg announced that it's finally on its way.
According to Business Insider, quoting from the town hall, the reason it took so long was because Facebook was working out what the "Dislike" button would be for. Zuckerberg did not want to create a system of upvoting and downvoting similar to Reddit, but realized that the "Like" button was not enough, because people need a way to express support when sharing bad news.
Zuckerberg did not say when the "dislike" button will be ready, but it's officially, finally, on its way.
